Preparing for work and independent living is an important part of the high school years. Vocational programs and related services are available to special education students both during and immediately following high school.  Often it is difficult to figure out which programs are best for an individual, and how to have access to those programs.  Moving from school to community living can be a confusing as well as overwhelming transition.

This site has been prepared for high school age students receiving special education services and their parents as a tool to help with this transition.  It emphasizes early vocational planning and identification of school programs and community agencies that are most appropriate for the individual student.

The scope of this site has been limited to programs and related support services available to special education students in Whiteside County in IL. It is hoped that this handbook will be used often and will guide students toward successful participation in their communities.
